NORMAL, Ill. - Junior Madeha Farrar (Thorton, Ill.) captured Western Illinois? lone individual first-place finish Friday, in dual meet action against Illinois State. Western fell to the Redbirds by the score of 156-76.Farrar recorded a season best time of 1:05.82 in the 100-yard breaststroke event for the first-place finish. Farrar?s time was just .79 seconds off of her own school record set last season. Western captured one other first place victory in the meet. The team of junior L iz Atkinson (St. Charles, Ill.), sophomore Jennifer Madgiak (Lansing, Ill.) and freshmen Amanda Smith (Morrison, Ill.) and Amber Piercy (Fort Wayne, Ind.) won the 200-yard freestyle relay with a season best time of 1:41.85.Smith also recorded two second-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle events. Smith hit the wall in :25.40 in the 50 free and had a season best time of :55.20 in the 100 free.Freshman diver Dannielle Augustine (Leaf River, Ill.) finished second in the 1-meter diving competition with a final score of 111.97 points.Both the men?s and women?s swimming and diving squads will be back in action Friday, to take on new Mid-Continent Conference member Eastern Illinois in Charleston. The competition is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
