Western Falls To Missouri State In Dual Swimming & Diving Meet

MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois University swimming and diving squads fell in a dual meet Friday to Missouri State at the Brophy Hall Pool. The men fell by the score of 143-82, while the women suffered a 138-96 defeat.On the men?s side of the competition, freshman Ryan Wichman (Bowling Green, Ohio) captured a season best time in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.66. Freshman Nick Carroll (Northbrook, Ill.) won the 200-yard breaststroke event with a time of 2:21.80. Carroll and Wichman, along with senior Mark DuBois (South Bend, Ind.) and junior Matt Clavey (Northbrook, Ill.) hit the wall in season best time of 3:22.16 in the 400 free relay event.The other two first-place finishes on the men?s side came in the one and three-meter diving competitions. Freshman Anthony Holzhauer (Towanda, Ill.) won the one-meter event with a total score of 274.66, while freshman Eric Campbell (Glenview, Ill.) won the three-meter event with a season best point total of 265.28.In the women?s 50-yard freestyle event, junior Lindsay Mathis (Homer Glen, Ill.) captured first place with a season best time of :25.24. Junior Madeha Farrar (Thorton, Ill.) won the 200 breast with a time of 2:28.01. The 400 free relay team of Mathis and freshmen Amber Piercy (Ft. Wayne, Ind.), Amanda Smith (Morrison, Ill.) and Shannon Nelson (Davenport, Iowa) won with a time of 3:44.71.The Western Illinois men?s swimming and diving team will travel to Monmouth, Ill., Oct. 29 to compete in a quadrangular meet with Monmouth, Rose-Hulman and Chicago. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
