MACOMB, Ill. - The Western Illinois men?s swimming and diving squad defeated Saint Louis University Friday by the score of 131-111. The Western women fell to the Billikins 154-87 at Brophy Hall Pool.In the men?s competition, the Leathernecks had six first-place finishes with freshman Ryan Wichman (Bowling Green, Ohio) leading the way with two individual victories. Wichman won the 1,000-yard freestyle event with a time of 10:11.94. In the 500 free, Wichman won with a time of 4:55.08. Freshman Nick Carroll (Northbrook, Ill.) took first in the 200-yard breaststroke, crossing the line in 2:18.63. Carroll also took second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:05.31. Senior Mark DuBois (South Bend, Ind.) captured the 200 free title with a time of 1:49.82 and took second in the 100 free with a time of :48.43.Western also captured both men?s diving events. In the one-meter diving event, freshman Anthony Holzhauer (Towanda, Ill.) took first, followed by freshmen Eric Campbell (Glenview, Ill.) and Anthony Crowder (Champaign, Ill.). In the three-meter diving Western took the top three spots with Campbell taking first, followed by Holzhauer and Crowder.On the women?s side, Western Illinois took four first-place finishes with freshman Amber Piercy (Fort Wayne, Ind.) earning two of those four. Piercy won the 1,000 free with a time of 10:44.55 and the 500 free at 5:16.74. Junior Lindsay Mathis (Homer Glen, Ill.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :25.63.Sophomore Jennifer Madgiak (Lansing, Ill.) won the 100 free with a time of :55.86. She also garnered second place in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.47. Junior Madeha Farrar (Thorton, Ill.) took second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:28.34.The Western Illinois swimming and diving will return to action Friday against Missouri State at Brophy Hall Pool. The competition will begin at 4:30 p.m.
