Courtney Lubbers was named the Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Monday, September 14th. Lubbers won the flight one singles and doubles championship at the Quincy Invitational on September 11-12.
 
After cruising through the first two rounds of singles competition on Friday, Lubbers found herself in the finals the following day where she easily defeated Maryville’s Sarah Elter in two matches by a score of 6-4 and 6-2 to secure the flight one championship.
 
In doubles action, the flight one duo made up of Lubbers and Maria Bessmertnaya worked their way through the first two round of doubles play on Friday and to make it to the championship round where they defeated the Quincy team of Sydney Lynch and Amy Kuhle by a score of 9-7.
 
Lubbers is a sophomore majoring in pre-nursing and boasts a 3.5 GPA.
 
Lubbers and the rest of the women’s tennis team will be back in action on September 25-27 at the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Illinois.
