Matt Muetterties was named a Hampton Inn Scholar-Athlete for September. The sophomore from Burlington, Ill., is the starting right tackle for WIU Football and made the MVFC Academic Honor Roll last season.
 
What’s the best part about playing for Western Illinois?
“The best part about playing for Western Illinois is the friends I have made and the people I have met.”
 
If you could give one piece of advice to someone hoping to play collegiately, what would you tell them?
“My piece of advice I would give to someone is that everyone starts somewhere, and the harder you work, the more you separate yourself from your peers.”
 
What’s your favorite non-sports related hobby?
“My favorite non-sports hobby is fishing. It is very relaxing and something I've always enjoyed.”
 
If you could have dinner with three guests of your choosing, who would it be and why?
“If I could have dinner with three guests of my choosing it would be Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clay Matthews, and Sylvester Stallone. I picked these three because they are all people I grew up idolizing. I think it would be really cool to hear their stories, and hear how they got to where they are in life now.”
 
Do you have any hidden talents?
“My hidden talent is that I can dunk a basketball.”
 
How would your friends and family describe you as a person?
“I think my friends and family would describe me as hardworking and motivated.”
 
Why did you choose your current major?
“My current major is construction management. I chose this major because I've always been interested in how things were built.”
 
Dogs or cats?
“I am a dog person. I have five German Shepherds at my house in Wisconsin.”


If Rocky (the school mascot) could talk, what do you think he would say?
“If Rocky could talk I think he would cheer on the Leathernecks.”
