Despite the losses, Western Illinois showed strong offense throughout the series, highlighted by home runs from Bushey and Monge in the finale.
Scouting Indiana State
Indiana State comes into the matchup riding after winning two of three at Southern Illinois and has put together a strong 2026 season against a tough schedule that included early matchups with ranked opponents like NC State, Wake Forest and Miami. The Sycamores have found their stride in recent weeks, picking up series wins over Penn State, Valparaiso, Illinois-Chicago, Illinois State, Wright State and Evansville, along with midweek victories against in-state programs such as Illinois, Indiana and Purdue. With a balanced lineup producing offensively and a pitching staff that has settled in as the year has progressed, Indiana State enters playing some of its best baseball and has proven to be a resilient team.
Scouting Morehead State
Morehead State comes in as a strong Ohio Valley Conference team that can really swing it and has shown it can beat some strong opponents this year, including a win over No. 18 Kentucky and a couple other Power Five matchups. Offensively, they've had some big days at the plate and are capable of putting up runs in bunches. In conference play, they've stayed competitive and shown they can hang around in close games, with enough offense and experience to be dangerous if they get going early.Â
