MACOMB, Ill.- Liam Bushey made history on Saturday afternoon, launching his 13th home run of the season to set a new Western Illinois University single-season program record during the Leathernecks' game against UT Martin.
Bushey's record-breaking homer moved him past a group of former Leathernecks who previously shared the top spot with 12 home runs in a season. The previous record had stood since 2002, when Joe Rooney matched the mark. Others who hit 12 in a season included Sean Munger (2001), Ryan Langdon (2000), and Corny Stanley (1991).
The milestone adds another standout achievement to Bushey's breakout season, as he now stands alone atop one of the most prestigious offensive categories in program history.
With the season still ongoing, Bushey will have the opportunity to continue adding to his new record as the Leathernecks push toward the final stretch of the year.
