MACOMB,Ill.- Western Illinois earned a strong midweek win on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Quincy 12-2. The Leathernecks used timely hitting, and late-inning offense to pull away after Quincy took the lead early. 

The Leathernecks struck first in the opening inning when Wandel Campana delivered an RBI single to score Joe Connolly for a 1-0 lead. Western Illinois added three more in the second after Kamryn Link launched a three-run home run to center, pushing the advantage to 4-0. Quincy answered with two runs in the third. 

The Leathernecks added a run in the sixth before breaking the game open with four runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth. Connolly highlighted the seventh inning with a two-run double, while Campana and Gage Hoover each added RBI contributions during the rally. In the eighth, Link doubled home a run before Campana added another RBI single to cap the scoring. 

Link led the offense with four RBIs, going 2-for-2 with a home run, double, four runs scored, and two walks. Campana also drove in four runs while collecting two hits and two walks. Connolly added three hits and three RBIs from the leadoff spot, while Hoover chipped in two hits and an RBI. Krayton Morse scored three times as the Leathernecks continued to get production throughout the lineup. 

With the win, Western Illinois moves to 15-28 overall and gains momentum heading into its next Ohio Valley Conference series where they will host the UT Martin Skyhawks.
