Leatherneck Track and Field Turn in Impressive Performances at Keck Select

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois track and field turned in a strong performance at the Keck Select, highlighted by an event victory, a top-10 program mark, and multiple personal bests across both squads.

Junior Arnie Grunert led the way for the Leathernecks, winning the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.30 meters (17-4.50).

Senior Mya Hippolyte delivered one of the top performances of the meet on the women's side, clocking a 7.72 in the 60 meters. The time marked a personal best and ties for No. 8 all-time in program history.

Freshman Kenneth Cooley continued a strong start to his collegiate career, posting personal bests in both sprint events. Cooley ran 7.03 in the 60 meters and followed with a 22.76 in the 200 meters.

Junior Matthew Thomas compiled 4,618 points in the men's heptathlon, highlighted by strong performances in the long jump, pole vault, and 1,000 meters as he finished among the meet's top competitors.

Western Illinois also saw encouraging performances from its distance runners. Freshmen Evan Eberhart and Brody Harker placed third and fourth in the men's 5,000 meters in their collegiate debuts, while junior Ellie Bauer recorded a personal best in the mile.

Several Leathernecks notched personal bests on the women's side, including Alyssa Adeoti in the 400 meters and Hannah Steinmeyer, Emma-Kate Watt, and Lydia Bennett in the 800 meters, as the squad showed depth across the middle-distance events.
