Matchup

The Western Illinois women's basketball team continues their conference road trip by facing the Morehead State Eagles. The Leathernecks are 15-2 this season and 7-1 in conference. Western Illinois is in its third year in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Last Time Out

Western Illinois earned a 75–59 Ohio Valley Conference road victory at Little Rock, pulling away with a strong fourth-quarter performance. The Leathernecks led by double digits early and sealed the win by outscoring the Trojans 27–20 in the final period. Senior Mia Nicastro led all scorers with 28 points and added 14 rebounds for a double-double, going 9-of-14 from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 at the free-throw line. Addi Brownfield chipped in 16 points with three three-pointers, while Mallory Shetley and Allie Meadows added 13 and 12 points, respectively, as WIU improved to 15–2 overall and 7–1 in OVC play.

Scouting the Eagles

Morehead State enters the matchup as a competitive Ohio Valley Conference squad with a mixed 2025-26 campaign marked by offensive balance and three-point shooting volume. The Eagles sit around .500 on the season (roughly 8–8 overall, 4–2 in OVC) and have shown they can score in bunches, highlighted by a dominant non-conference performance in which five players reached double figures, led by a 23-point outing from Josefine Enander against Kentucky Christian. MSU leads the OVC in three-point attempts per game and ranks near the top of the league in made treys, with Violet McNece and Anja Ekstrom among the team's long-range threats. Forward Kate Dike paces the team in scoring and rebounding, consistently posting double figures and shooting efficiently from deep. Defensively, the Eagles have had ups and downs, at times struggling with consistency against top-tier competition, but remain capable of hanging with quality opponents when they control the glass and limit turnovers.
