Matchup

The Western Illinois women's basketball team heads on the road to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Wednesday, Nov. 26th at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Leathernecks are on a 4-game winning streak, hoping to extend the streak. WIU is in its third season in the Ohio Valley Conference.

Last Time Out

Western Illinois improved to 4–0 after an 84–77 home victory over Bradley, using a dominant 30-point third quarter to erase a halftime deficit and take control. Raegan McCowan led the way with 28 points and 9 rebounds, while Mia Nicastro added 23 points and 9 boards in one of her best outings of the season. Addi Brownfield chipped in 19 points, including three threes, as the Leathernecks shot 24-for-27 at the free-throw line and outrebounded the Braves 37–30. WIU's second-half defensive pressure and efficiency at the stripe sealed the win and extended their undefeated start.

Scouting Iowa

Iowa enters the matchup under second-year head coach Jan Jensen, who took over the program in 2024 after more than two decades on staff and has continued the Hawkeyes' identity of pace, spacing, and efficient, high-IQ basketball. Jensen's groups play fast and purposeful, pushing the ball in transition and looking to create early scoring opportunities before defenses can organize. In the half-court, Iowa leans on sharp guard play, constant off-ball movement, and a steady diet of ball screens and perimeter actions designed to free shooters and open driving lanes. They remain one of the better perimeter-shooting teams in the region, with multiple players capable of stretching the floor deep beyond the arc. Defensively, the Hawkeyes rely on disciplined positioning, strong help-side rotations, and team rebounding that quickly turns stops into transition chances. Jensen's experience and continuity within the program allow Iowa to execute with precision on both ends, making communication, transition defense, and contesting threes critical for anyone facing them.
