Finding Their Finishing Touch
Western Illinois' offense found much-needed momentum in its last outing, scoring two goals for the first time since the season opener against St. Ambrose. The Leathernecks showed renewed confidence in the attacking third, as Abigail Schilling and Claire Brown each found the back of the net in the matchup against SIUE. That performance gave WIU a boost heading into this week's home stretch, as the team looks to continue putting pressure on opposing defenses.Â
Conference Standings
Despite sitting at the bottom of the OVC standings, Western Illinois enters the weekend looking to build off recent signs of progress. With back-to-back home contests against SEMO and Lindenwood—two teams sitting in the middle of the conference pack—WIU has an opportunity to turn effort into points and begin climbing the standings as the regular season winds down.
Offensive Threats
Abigail Schilling has been a steady force for the Leathernecks this season, leading the team in both goals and points as a freshman while appearing in every match. Fellow attacker Claire Brown has found her stride in recent weeks, scoring in back-to-back games to move into a tie with Kayla Turner for second on the team in goals.
Scouting Southeast Missouri (1-11-1)
Southeast Missouri picked up its first win of the season last game against UT Martin and enters the weekend with a 1-2-1 mark in OVC play. The Redhawks have shown resilience despite a tough start, leaning on their defensive organization to stay competitive in recent matches. SEMO's attack is led by a balanced group that looks to create chances through quick transitions and set pieces.
Scouting Lindenwood (5-4-3)
Lindenwood sits in the middle of the OVC standings at 2-2 and has proven to be one of the league's more unpredictable teams. The Lions opened conference play strong but enter the weekend coming off a loss against Tennessee Tech. Offensively, Lindenwood has been efficient, finding ways to score in key moments, while their back line has shown the ability to frustrate opponents. The matchup will mark a key test for Western Illinois as the Leathernecks look to contain a well-balanced Lions squad and capitalize on their home-field advantage.
