Leatherneck Women’s Bowling Heads to the Windy City

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois University women's bowling team continues its fall season this weekend, playing at the Windy City Halloween Classic on Friday, October 31st, through Sunday, November 2nd.

WHERE | Des Plaines, IL

LAST TIME OUT | Western Illinois competed at the Chelsea Gilliam Penguin Classic in Youngstown, Ohio, finishing 15th in the 18-team field. The Leathernecks went 6-7 across Baker and traditional formats, totaling a 172.8 average. WIU picked up Baker wins over Duquesne, Coppin State, and Alabama A&M, and added a traditional match victory against Walsh. In Sunday's bracket play, the Leathernecks secured two more wins over Alabama A&M to close the event. Jaydyn Hunting led WIU individually with a 903 series, followed by Cassidy Williams with an 870 and Melina Eresbey and Heather Walker at 837 and 836.

ABOUT THE LEATHERNECKS | Western Illinois University bowling is set to begin the 2025 season with eight new additions to the roster. The Leathernecks welcome a mix of experience and fresh talent to the program this year. Joining the team are senior Melina Eresby of Villahermosa, Mexico; freshman Skylar Houseman of Moline, Illinois; sophomore Skylar Huber of Bradshaw, Nebraska; freshman Jaydyn Hunting of Lexington, Kentucky; and freshman Maleena Moreno of San Antonio, Texas. Also joining the squad are freshman Angela Steinke of Rothschild, Wisconsin, sophomore Heather Walker of Mentor, Ohio, and graduate student Cassidy Williams of New Ulm, Minnesota.

The program will be led by head coach Derek Sapp, a Western Illinois alumnus who competed on the Leatherneck men's bowling team. Sapp brings valuable experience to the role, most recently serving as the head bowling coach at Culver-Stockton College.
