Western Illinois University Baseball First Pitch Dinner Raises over $18,000

| By:

MACOMB, IL – The Leatherneck Baseball team got the spring 2024 season off to a great start, raising more than $18,000 at their First Pitch Dinner on February 3, 2024. The event, held at Park Place of Macomb, brought together the community, Leatherneck baseball alumni, and the 2024 team and coaching staff in support of the baseball program.

The event featured a silent auction with various items, dinner, an alumni appreciation acknowledgment, an introduction of the 2024 team, and a question and answer session with former Major League Baseball player Robbie Ross of the Boston Red Sox.

"We would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the event in any way," said Head Baseball Coach Terry Davis. "It was an awesome way to start off the 2024 baseball season, and we wanted to make sure that we did so in a very professional way. Huge thank you to former MLB Star Robbie Ross for being our guest and joining us for the evening!"

The money raised is being allocated to various aspects of the baseball program, including upgrades to training facilities, equipment, and new software to aid in player development and recruiting. Western Illinois Athletics and the Leatherneck Baseball team would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all those in attendance at this year's event.

While the silent auction has closed, opportunities to support the baseball program are still available. New in 2024, Coach Davis has started the Baseball Meal Club, aimed at improving nutrition and performance for WIU Baseball student-athletes. Memberships range from $100 to $500 and help support meals on the road, as well as in-game nutrition to help fuel the Leathernecks. Those interested can find more information here under the Baseball Meal Club tab.
