MACOMB, Ill - The Western Illinois Baseball team added two recruits to their 2025 Class today on National Signing Day. The Leathernecks signed UTL/RHP Jacob Golson from Frankfort, KY and OF/UTL Cole Sims from Perryville, KY.

Cole comes from Frontier Community College where he hit .354 and had a slugging percentage of .560 as a Freshman last season. He hit 4 HR's, 14 2B's, 5 3B's and stole 16 bases. He played club baseball in 2022 for the KBC Prime and attended Boyle County High School where he was a three time state champion in football.

Cole chose WIU because he said "It was a perfect fit for me in every way".

Golson comes from Franklin County High School where he was named to the Region 11 All-Tournament Team and was Varsity MVP his Junior year. In the same year, he was also named Varsity's best relief pitcher and was named to the KHSAA Academic All-State Team. As a Sophomore, Jacob was named to the KHSAA District 41 All Tournament Team and won the Varsity Big Slugger Award.

Golson played for several club teams including the Kentucky Rockers from 2015 - 2020, Kentucky Baseball Club from 2021 - 2023, and Commonwealth Baseball club in 2024.

When asked about why he chose WIU, Jacob said "I chose WIU because after meeting the coaching staff I was very excited about the player development and what they are building in the baseball program." He is set to graduate in May 2025.
