Lommel, Trevena Lead Leathernecks at OVC Cross Country Meet

MARTIN, TENNESSEE — Western Illinois men's cross country runner Logan Lommel again made big news, this time at the Ohio Valley Conference Meet at Graham Park in Martin, Tennessee.

Running in his final league cross country meet, Lommel put on another top-notch performance, finishing the 8k course in third overall in a time of 24:22.6. Lommel's performance is only bested by his school record mark of 24:16, set two years ago. Lommel was named First Team All-Conference. He is the first Leatherneck to earn all-conference honors since 2012.

As a squad, the WIU men finished sixth overall, scoring 157 points. Southern Indiana won the meet with 56.

After Lommel, Logan Beckmier was the next Leatherneck to finish. Beckmier was 22nd in 25:12.9. Sean Hudspath was two spots back, finishing in 24th in 25:23.40.

Freshman Eason Comer also had a strong day for Western Illinois, finishing 54th in 26:27.30. Comer's time was good for 48 points. Next for the Leathernecks was Richard Brown, who closed out the team scoring, finishing in 28:05.00, good for 76th overall and 60 points.

Matthew Thomas ended WIU's day in 85th with a time of 40:28.30.

On the women's side, the Leathernecks once again made some new additions to the record book led by Madison Trevena.

As a team, the Western Illinois matched Southeast Missouri State, scoring 136 points. Due to scoring runner vs. scoring runner head-to-head finish (1v1; 2v2; 3v3; 4v4; 5v5), the Leathernecks earned fifth place, winning three of the five places. The finish is the best in a conference meet for the women's program since 2020 when the squad was fourth overall.
Southern Indiana won the meet with 41 points.

Trevena finished the 6k 10th overall in 22:00.36. Trevena's 10th-place finish earned her Second Team All-Conference. She is the first Leatherneck to earn Second Team All-Conference since Alycia Thurston in 2012.

Kinze Kirkland-Shea was next to cross for WIU, scoring 16 points. The freshman gave WIU its first head-to-head vs. SEMO. Kirkland-Shea crossed the finish line in 22:32.7.

Also giving Western Illinois a head-to-head win vs. SEMO in the battle for fifth was Lydia Bennett. Bennett scored 22 points for WIU, finishing in 22:47.9.

The Western Illinois fourth finisher was Maleigha Huston. Huston was 34th in 23:06.8. Huston was able to finish two spots ahead of SEMO's fourth-best runner, which ended up being the tightest contested spot in the tiebreaker.

Closing out Western Illinois' scoring was Aylana Cezar. After battle injuries all fall, Cezar made her season debut for the Leathernecks, finishing 61st overall, and scoring 54 points, in 24:02.8.
Greta Sieren was 79th overall in 25:37.6 and Abby Fleming was 83rd in 26:50.5.
