45th Annual Leatherneck Club Golf Classic in the Books

The 45th Annual Leatherneck Club Golf Classic was held on Monday, June 5 at the Harry Mussatto Golf Course at Western Illinois University in Macomb. Thirty foursomes competed in two flights, with the Championship Flight team of Matt Lawver, Nick Severs, Brodie Dakin and Jake Mann declared winners with a low gross score of 52. First-Place Losers in the Championship Flight went to the team of Victor Dorethy, Chey Hopping, Dave VanDerGinst and Mike Vandehee with a score of 54.
 
The winning team in the First Flight had to be determined through a score-card playoff with multiple teams tied with a 62. After a scorecard playoff based upon handicapped holes, First Place in the First Flight was awarded to the team of Leroy Tappe, Justin Powers, Rick VanBrooker and Bill Simonson while First-Place Losers in the First Flight went to the team of Mike Waters, Bill Howard, Doug Johnson and Chad Hunziker.
 
In the Battle of the Banks, the team of Matt Lawver, Nick Severs, Brodie Dakin and Jake Mann, representing United Community Bank, took honors with their score of 52.
 
Other contest winners included Bill Simonson (Closest to the Pin); Chey Hopping (Men's Longest Drive); Spencer Conlin and Dave VanDerGinst (Longest Putt); Alisa Goler (Women's Longest Drive).
 
Winner of the Poker Run, with a flush, was Dr. Mike Waters. The 50-50 raffle winner was Matt Lawver.
 
Leatherneck Director of Athletics Paul A. Bubb appreciated all of the sponsors and volunteers who helped make the day a great success for Western Illinois University Athletics.
 
"It was truly a great day to be a Leatherneck," commented Bubb, noting that the weather was ideal, the course was in great shape, and everyone commented on how positive the energy was for the athletic department.
 
The 46th Annual Leatherneck Golf Classic is now scheduled for Monday, June 3rd.
