OVC Releases Women's Soccer Conference Schedule

Leathernecks open league play September 21

The Western Illinois women's soccer team begins a new era, starting play in the Ohio Valley Conference this fall.

On Tuesday, the league revealed the conference schedule, giving the Leathernecks an idea of how the 2023 season will look.

With the addition of Western Illinois, the league schedule takes place over the last six weeks of the season. Each team plays a nine-match schedule. OVC play starts on September 17 and concludes on October 22. WIU's foray into the 10-team league begins on Thursday, September 21 when they host their first Ohio Valley Conference league opponent, taking on Southeast Missouri in Macomb.

Western Illinois hits the road the next two Sundays, visiting Morehead State on September 24 and UT-Martin on October 1. The next home match for the Leathernecks is Thursday, October 5 against Southern Indiana.

WIU then alternates away and home games, visiting Tennessee Tech on Sunday, October 8, then hosting Eastern Illinois on Thursday, October 12.

The Leathernecks meet defending league tournament champion, SIU-Edwardsville in Edwardsville on Sunday, October 15 before traveling to Little Rock on Thursday, October 19 and closing out the regular season home slate on Sunday, October 22 against Lindenwood.

Tennessee Tech captured last year's OVC regular season title, going 5-0-3 in conference play. The OVC Women's Soccer Championship will take place October 27 & 29 and November 2 and 5 at the higher seeds. The Western Illinois women's soccer non-conference portion of the schedule will be released at a later date.
