WIU Finishes in 10th in Shortened Tournament

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois Women's golf finished their third fall tournament of the season at The Big O Classic on Tuesday (Oct. 3). The Leathernecks finished in 10th place out of 12 teams. Only 36 holes were counted because of inclement weather. 

Senior Natalie Hooper once again shot well. Hooper led off the front 9, shooting a 37 (+1). Hooper had two bogeys and one birdie. In the back nine, Hooper had two bogeys. In hole 17, Hooper double-bogeyed before finishing off round one with a birdie, shooting 77 (+4) after round one. Heading into round two, Hooper led off with a birdie. She would bogey in hole five while parring the rest, shooting 36 (E) heading into the back nine. In the back nine, Hooper had one birdie and one bogey. Hooper struggled on hole 14, finishing with a triple bogey before parring the rest and shooting a 76 (+3). Hooper finished T9 for the tournament, shooting 153 (+7).

Senior Hannah Butler also shot well for WIU. After a slow start in the first round through the front 9, Butler had three birdies in the back nine, including back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16. She would finish round one, shooting 79 (+6). In round two, Butler once again birdied on hole 16. Butler would end round two with a birdie and finished the tournament, leading WIU with seven birdies and placing T31 shooting 159 (+13).

Western Illinois will be back in action this weekend as they participate in the Bradley Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7, and Sunday, Oct. 8.
