Trio of Leathernecks named academic All-Summit

A trio of Western Illinois student athletes were honored by the Summit League on Tuesday, earning recognition on the conference's academic all-conference team in track and field.
Senior Paulina Wuestefeld was one of 16 women named to the conference's all-conference team.
Wuestefeld posted a 4.0 grade point average this last season while majoring in psychology.
She finished 15th in the Summit League Outdoor Meet in the 1500 and 18th in the 5000; She also finished first in the 1500 at the Joey Haines Invite in the 1500 as well second in the Musco Twilight and the Redbird Invitational in the 1500. She is seventh in program history in the 1500 with a 4:34.27.
On the men's side, both Lucas Hofer and Logan Lommel were on the 16-team member academic all-conference team.
Hofer posted a GPA 4.0 while working toward his masters in sports management.
Hofer ran a leg on the fourth-place 4x400 men's relay team at the Summit League Outdoor meet, finished sixth at the Summit League Outdoor meet in the men's 800, finished third in the men's 800 at the Dr. Tucker Open and won the Kip Janvrin Invitational in the 800. He ranks sixth in program history in the 800 outdoor, part of the program-best 4x800 relay team and part of the program's seventh-fastest men's distance medley relay team.
Logan Lommel posted a 3.96 GPA and was part of the Western Illinois school Record: 4x4 Relay and 4x8 Relay. He was also on the 4x400 relay team that finished fourth at the Summit League Invitational, finished seventh in the 1500 steeplechase at the Summit League Outdoor Meet, running the fourth-fastest time in the event in program history; finished sixth in the Summit League Outdoor meet in the 3000 steeplechase, also the fourth-fastest time in program history. He is the first WIU runner to score in the 3000 steeplechase at the conference meet since 2010
Lommel majors in history education.

A total of 32 student-athletes, 16 men and 16 women, have been named to the 2022 Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-League teams. The athletes are chosen for the award based on their academic and athletic performances during the 2022 outdoor season.
 
South Dakota paced all the institutions with 11 total selections between the two teams while North Dakota State had nine student-athletes make the teams. NDSU's Amanda Anderson was honored on the women's team for the fourth time in her career while teammate Kelby Anderson and South Dakota State's Oksana Johnson earned their third career nod.
 
On the men's side, Benji Phillips earned the fourth selection of his career while fellow Bison Trevor Otterdahl and Jacob Rodin picked up their third.
 
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
 
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's institutions that carry track and field, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
