Headlines
  • Western Illinois comes into the matchup with a 4-28 overall record. The Leathernecks fell in all three matchups to Oral Roberts at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium over the weekend. WIU was in striking distance in two of the games but couldn't produce timely hits to take a late lead.
  • Relief pitcher Jack Bell had a career outing versus ORU in the series opener. The Minooka, Ill., native pitched a career-high four innings of relief, allowed no runs, and struck out a career-high four batters.
  • Derek Botaletto drove in a pair of RBIs in game three versus the Golden Eagles, bringing his total up to eight on the season. Botaletto is now second on the team in multi-RBI games this season with three.
  • Western Illinois looks for its third straight victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Tuesday after having a dominant offensive game versus the Cougars earlier this season. The Leathernecks scored a season-high 18 runs back on March 16 to snap their two-game losing skid to the Cougars.
  • Dillon Sears looks for another big game at the plate versus SIUE, having a career day in the first matchup. Sears ended with a career-high four hits and a career-high four RBIs, along with a double, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
  • Kyle Rosenfeld gets his first career start versus the Cougars and will look to repeat the success he had against them in the first game. Rosenfeld pitched two shutout innings and struck out five of the eight batters he faced.
  • Western Illinois is 31-28 all-time versus the Cougars and 15-15 when playing in Macomb.
Scouting the opponent | Southern Illinois-Edwardsville enters the second matchup of the season 14-18 overall and is on a three-game losing streak. The Cougars played a doubleheader on the road this past Saturday in Carbondale against the Southern Illinois Salukis. SIUE fell in both games, losing game one 7-6 and game two 4-0. The Cougars continue to be one of the best power-hitting teams in college baseball. SIUE is t-26th in the nation in home runs with 52 as a team. Brett Johnson leads the team with 12 homers, while Richie Well has hit 11. The duo has also combined for 68 total hits, 61 RBIs, and 49 runs scored.
