Baseball falls at Charlotte

Leathernecks back in action on Sunday

CHARLOTTE – The Western Illinois baseball team fell on Saturday to Charlotte, dropping a 29-4 contest.
The Leathernecks scored first as Dillon Sears came around on an error by Charlotte in the top of the second.
With two outs and a man on, Adam Juran delivered, putting WIU up 2-0 with an RBI single.
Charlotte answered back, scoring seven in the bottom of the second and one in the third to go up 8-2.
Western cut the deficit to four runs in the top of the fourth as CJ Richmond connected on a two-run home run.
The scoring ended there for Western Illinois as Charlotte pitching quieted the Leatherneck bats.
Toby Allred and Derek Botaletto led the offense, each finishing with a pair of hits while Richmond's two RBI provided the big punch of the day.
Allred was on base a third time, getting hit by a pitch.
Christian McKelvey added a double for WIU.
Johnny Beck had a strong appearance in relief, tossing 2.2 innings, allowing one run
Western finished with four runs on nine hits.
The two teams meet in a rematch on Sunday with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
