Leathernecks fall in Sunday contest at Charlotte

Botaletto with a pair of hits, run scored

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Leatherneck baseball team scored first but Charlotte was able to score more, topping Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon, 16-1 in seven innings.
Western scored a run in the top of the first as Dillon Sears' sacrifice bunt plated Derek Botaletto.
Botaletto singled with one out in the top of the first then advanced to third on a hit by Toby Allred setting the table for Sears.
Chandler Fochs would send Charlotte down one, two, three in the bottom of the first but in the second, the home team struck for six runs.
Charlotte added two in the third and seven in the fourth to break open the game.
Botaletto led the Western offense with two of the four Leatherneck hits.
Caden Kratz had a solid day out of the bullpen, tossing 1.1 innings of no-run, two strikeout relief.
Western returns to action on Tuesday, hitting the road to take on St. Louis.
