Women’s Golf Adds New Signee Kelly Wu

Wu joins the Leathernecks after a successful high school career in New Zealand

Macomb, Ill.- Western Illinois Women's Golf made another excellent addition to the team, in signing Kelly Wu.
 
"I'm excited to welcome Kelly to the team.  Her consistency and tournament success will transition very well to Division I golf," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "I anticipate Kelly will have an immediate positive impact on our program."
 
Wu comes to Western Illinois from New Zealand and competed with St. Kentigern College Golf Academy. She was a member of the junior varsity team in 2018, and helped the team get third in the New Zealand team championship.
 
She was added to the varsity roster in 2019 and named team captain. During the 2019 season, she finished ninth in the Waikato Winter Strokeplay Championship (78, 76, 76, 78), fourth in the U16 Waikato Age Group Championship (70, 81), 20th in the New Zealand U16 Championship (74, 72, 80), and fifth in the U19 Auckland Age Group Championship (72,74). In team competitions, she helped her squad place third in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Championship and second in the New Zealand Junior Team Championship.
 
In 2020, she took fifth in the Waikato Strokeplay Championship (84,72), third in the Titirangi Girls Classic (77), and first in the Auckland U19 Championship (70,74). She helped her team finish in first in the New Zealand Junior Team Championship, winning five of the six matches.
 
In 2021, she was Medalist in the U19 Lydia Ko Championships (72,73), fourth in the Danny Lee Springfield Women's Open (70,71,75) and placed top ten in the Autex Muiwai Open (74,76), and the Gulf Harbour Charles Tour (75,77,72,79).
 
Along with an amazing golf career, she also had a number of first place finishes in table tennis and was a member of the St Kentigern's College Chinese Cultural Club.
