Tanner Leads Leathernecks in Payne Stewart Memorial

Junior Katie Tanner led Western in their second tournament of the fall season with a score of +12 over par.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.- Western Illinois women's golf competed in its second tournament of the fall in the Payne Stewart Memorial, hosted by Missouri State. Western battled 13 other universities, and two teams from Missouri State, placing 13th overall with a score of +74.
 
"Overall, I was pleased with our progress during this tournament. We started finishing our golf swings under pressure," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "We finished our rounds better and knocked a few shots off the team score each round. We have a couple of weeks to dial-in our short game and work on a little putting before we head to Omaha."
 
Katie Tanner finished with the best overall score for WIU at +12 over par to place t-18 overall. Tanner's first round was her best individual round score at +3 over par with a birdie. The Auburn, Ill., native finished with the second lowest scores for the Leathernecks in the second and third rounds (+5, +4).
 
Riley Hansen competed in her first tournament of the season and used a great second round to finish with a score of +18 over par to place t-36 overall. Hansen shot even in the front nine of round two and finished +3 over par with two birdies.
 
Olivia Kerr ended on a great note with Western's best round three score. Kerr shot +2 over par in round three with two birdies to finish with an overall score of +23 over par.
 
Summit League foe Oral Roberts took the tournament with an overall team score of +22. Missouri State's Abby Cavaiani finished with the best individual score at -2 under par.
