SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Academic recognition continues to flow toward the way of Western Illinois athletics, as the department saw 62 of its student-athletes named to the Summit League's Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, announced on Friday (July 23).
WIU had 13 sports programs represented, with men's soccer leading the way (ten players chosen). These achievements came a day after the league unveiled its yearly Academic Honor Roll, which saw 118 Western student-athletes garner honors.
To be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, a student-athlete must carry a 3.50 or better cumulative GPA, have used a year of eligibility, and completed one academic year at the nominating institution.
Additionally, women's basketball and women's cross country excelled in being awarded league 'Team Academic Achievement' honors.
