CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Some were weeks removed from their last meet and others were pushing a month, but it didn't matter. It was back to business as usual for the Western Illinois track and field program that earned a pair of event wins and 10 total 'Top 10' finishes at the Joey Haines Invite Saturday (April 3).
Amelia Peterson and Ackeen Colley left the meet as victors in the triple jump and 1,500-meter run, respectively, and also stamped their names in Western's record books.
Peterson notched three personal records, and two of them will be added to the Leathernecks' all-time list. Her 12.58-meter triple jump sits third best and a 5.91-meter long jump ties for seventh. She also posted a PR in the 100-meter dash (12.20), where she finished ninth overall in a 31-woman field.
Fresh off his performance at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, Colley opened his outdoor slate with a time of 3.49.91 in the 1,500-meter. The performance was just shy of breaking a school record and sits second all-time on the Leathernecks' men's outdoor list.
Western Illinois will split meets at the Joe Walker Invitational (April 9-10) and EIU Big Blue (April 10) next week.
