Time for postseason play!

2021 Summit League Championships

The 2020-21 regular season saw quite a few standout moments from Western Illinois women's golf. An early example occurred in February when the Leathernecks took home the Alabama State Spring Classic team title. To kick off April, the ladies did the same in protecting their home course at the Beu Mussatto Invitational, where fifth-year Cassidy Jurkaites attained co-medalist honors.

Western will not have much time to reflect on those instances right now, however. A new focus lies ahead for the team: the Summit League championships. Play will unfold at Sand Creek Station (Newton, Kan.), running April 24-26.

Starting Lineup

1. Cassidy Jurkaites

2. Katie Tanner

3. Natalie Hooper

4. Abbie Gault

5. Adriana Garcia Martin

From the Director's Chair

"Our group has enjoyed the last couple of weeks in preparation for the league championships," said WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "Our home event (Beu Mussatto Invitational) and the Northern Iowa Invitational were good tests of challenging greens and wind that we will face in Kansas. Sand Creek requires accuracy and solid putting, and we will focus on those elements during the practice round. Our goal will be to trust our preparation and pick smart targets."

Last Time Out

In its regular-season finale at UNI's hosted tournament, WIU ended with a team score of 958, having totaled 318-22-318 over the weekend. Riley Hansen shot 77 twice during her final two rounds to lead Western with 236 (+20). It was the second time this season that the first-year placed first on WIU's leaderboard. Jurkaites finished right behind Hansen, firing 237.

Gault and Hooper tallied 243 and 248, respectively, improving from their second to third rounds. Garcia Martin also showed such improvement to end at 251. Tanner combined for 162 in rounds one and two but did not finish the third.
