Gilmore Sets Program Record, Ties Summit League All-Time Mark

Grace Gilmore scored a program-record 46 points and tied The Summit League single-game record.

Omaha - Senior Grace Gilmore is making her final run for Western Illinois one to remember as she set the program record with 46 points in a double-overtime thriller at Omaha on Saturday (Feb. 6). The Leathernecks fell to the Mavericks, 105-102.

"That was quite a game, and give credit to Omaha, who had some kids really step up," head coach JD Gravina said. "It was definitely a game that could have gone either way. It was also an unreal individual performance by Grace Gilmore."

Gilmore knocked down a career-high six three-pointers and added 10 points from the free-throw en route to tying The Summit League single-game record set by Keni Jo Lippe of Oral Roberts last season. The 46 points are also the second-most by a player in the NCAA this season.

Omaha forced overtime and a second overtime quarter after they knocked down two buzzer-beaters. In the second extra frame, the Mavs began a 9-2 run that pushed them out to a 102-94 lead. WIU responded with a 7-2 push and brought to a one-point game (102-103) with seven seconds left, but the host took advantage of missed free-throws and converted on their end to take game one.

Elizabeth Lutz (18), Evan Zars (11), and Carla Flores (10) all ended in double-figures. The game featured a combined 29 three-pointers, with seven different Leathernecks hitting one. Every player for WIU that appeared, finished in the scoring column with Western scoring over 100 points since Feb. 1, 2019, at North Dakota.

The setback snapped an 11 game win streak against Omaha and the first loss in Baxter Arena since 2016.

Game two is set for tomorrow at 4 p.m.
