Deets and Lutz Lead Series Split at Omaha

Anna Deets and Elizabeth Lutz each scored 23 in an 89-66 victory at Omaha on Sunday (Feb. 7).

OMAHA-The duo of Elizabeth Lutz and Anna Deets led Western Illinois (5-14, 4-8) to an 89-66 victory against Omaha (2-9, 1-5)  on Sunday (Feb. 7).

"Really proud of the way we responded to a heartbreaking loss yesterday," head coach JD Gravina said." That's a tough thing to do physically and mentally. Defensively we were more aggressive, and it really showed. Go Chiefs!"

Lutz and Deets each scored 23 points for the series split inside Baxter Arena. The marked set a career-high as the freshman also drilled a career-high seven three-pointers while Western had 19 threes to combine for a weekend total of 35. Lutz also collected six rebounds and six assists with three steals.

Up 21-16 after the first 10 minutes, Western outscored the Mavericks 25-10 in the second quarter to control the contest and never look back. A 13-1 run led the Leathernecks to a 44-25 lead at the half and was highlighted by consecutive trifectas from Deets and Grace Gilmore.

After her record-setting performance last night, Gilmore (11), along with Sam Pryor (11) and Danni Nichols (10), all ended in double-figures. Evan Zars added 12 rebounds and her three blocks moved her to fourth all-time with 77.

The Leathernecks return to Western Hall one last time on Friday and Saturday against Denver.
