Matchup history: Friday's game will be the 11th time in program history that WIU and UMKC have met, with the Roos holding a 7-3 record. The last time these teams faced each other was on Feb. 28, 2021, which Kansas City won 2-1 in overtime.

Players to watch: Now in her fifth season as a Leatherneck, Lauryn Peters has been a force on the WIU back line this season. She currently leads the team in minutes played (1,289), tying for the team lead in both appearances and starts (14) while playing a big role in the team's three shutouts this season.

Playing alongside Peters on the back line is Angie Knies, who has also played and started in each of the team's 14 games this season. The sophomore from Ely, Iowa, has now played and started in 30 games as a Leatherneck.

"Lauryn and Angie play a lot of minutes for us, but they've earned that time on the field. They connect well with the midfield, can play balls over the top to our forwards, and work extremely hard every day in training," associate head coach Josee Primeau said. "Their continued focus on improving this season has been great to see and I look forward to watching them play throughout the rest of this season."

So far this season: WIU is currently 7-6-1 (1-4) on the season and coming off a road loss at St. Thomas. Six different players have scored, while four different Leathernecks have provided at least two assists. They've more than doubled the scoring output when compared to last season, and the team's work on defense has resulted in three shutouts.

Scouting the opponent: The Roos are 5-11 on the season and coming off a split showing over last weekend. They fell 6-1 at Denver on Friday (Oct. 15) and followed up that performance with a 2-1 victory at Omaha on Sunday (Oct. 17). Kassi Ginther leads the team in scoring with five goals and goalkeeper Mackenzie Caldwell has two shutouts on the season.

What's next: After Friday's game, Western women's soccer heads to Tulsa, Okla., for a game with Oral Roberts. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
