Kick-Off | The Western Illinois women's soccer team makes it way back to campus to host UIC on Thursday (Sept. 5) at 4 p.m. and Northern Illinois Sunday (Sept. 8) at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out | The Purple and Gold were on the road for the first time this season last weekend and played to a 0-0 draw at IUPUI and a 3-1 loss at Kansas City.

Ines Palmiero Herrera kept IUPUI scoreless at the end of the first half with back-to-back saves. She was later tested again at the 86-minute mark, but the keeper tipped the ball over the crossbar and then came off her line to stop the corner that followed to help force overtime finishing with six saves.

After each side remained tied 0-0, Western and IUPUI went into overtime. The Jaguars almost connected on the golden goal, but Bridget Schuler cleared it out the box in the first overtime period. Each side threatened in extra time combining for a total of seven shots as neither could find the back of the net.

At Kansas City, the Leathernecks pounced on the undefeated Roos first. After a Kansas City foul, Lauryn Peters placed a perfect ball off the free-kick to Carolina Gomes (18') who brought it down and one-timed into the net for her first career goal as a Leatherneck.

The Roos made it a 1-1 game when All-American Rylan Childrens converted successfully on a penalty kick at the 53-minute mark. Then after the Roos took the lead 2-1 by Lindsey Prokop (65'), they took advantage of another PK and stretched the score to 3-1.

Palmiero Herrera continued to edge closer to become fifth all-time in career saves for WIU. The senior stopped five Kansas City shots and now sits at 190 saves, only needing one to tie the record set by Carey Cowhey (2002-05).

Scouting the Flames | UIC travels to John MacKenzie Alumni Field with a 2-1-1 record and wins against South Dakota and Toledo. First-year head coach Tom Anagnost leads the Flames this season and brings in 15 newcomers for the 2019 season. Horizon League All-Freshman and Second team selection, Emily Kavanugh returns for his second season and looks to repeat as the team's leading goal scorer.

Scouting the Huskies | Northern Illinois enters the Sunday matinee with a 0-1-1 record and a match against Illinois State before making the drive to WIU. The Huskies return 17 players, headlined by Kelsey Chope who was an All-MAC honoree and has played in 59 matches.

Primeau's Pregame Quote | "We're entering this weekend with two home games following a hard weekend away," assistant coach Josee Primeau said. "Our girls worked hard in the last two matches and now we're looking forward to being back on our home field against UIC and NIU. UIC is coming off of two wins in their last two games, so they will be tough competition for us. NIU has always been an in-state rival of ours, who we never take lightly. Our girls had good attitudes going into training this week and are ready to go."

Between the Pipes | Senior goalkeeper Ines Palmiero Herrera has continued to climb the ranks in the record book. After recording eleven saves this past weekend against IUPUI and Kansas City, she is only one save away from tying Carey Cowhey (2002-05) for fifth all-time with 191. Last season she led the Summit League with 93 saves en route to setting the individual season record for eighth all-time and tenth for minutes in goal (1487:55). Palmiero Herrera sits sixth all-time in saves (190), eighth in saves per game (4.87) and fourth for minutes in goal (3277:28).

ALL EYES ON YAKIMA | Heading into her junior season, Lauryn Peters was named a Summit League Player to Watch. She has notched back-to-back seasons with at least one goal and two assists. Last season, Peters started all 18 matches and finished tied for first on the team with 14 shots on goal. The Yakima, Wash., native has logged over 2,400 minutes in just two seasons and has appeared in all 34 games with 30 starts. Peters recorded a shot in nearly every match but six and ended the 2018 season tied for second in assists (2) and shots (28). She also takes the pitch alongside her high school teammate and current captain Natalie Nagle.

Up Next | The Leathernecks return to the road with matches against Milwaukee (Sept. 12) and Illinois State (Sept. 15).
