Kick-Off | The Western Illinois women's soccer team opens up a five-game homestand starting with Drake on Friday at 4 p.m. (Sept. 20) and Northern Iowa Sunday (Sept. 22) at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out | WIU held Illinois State scoreless for nearly all game, but a late Redbird goal made the difference is a 1-0 loss on Sunday (Sept. 15). 
 
Illinois State started the afternoon tilt with totaling six shots on goal in the first half, but Ines Palmiero Herrera denied every opportunity to keep it scoreless. The senior stopped one more shot in the second half to total seven for the second time this season. She now holds a career mark of 213 saves and is six away from tying Katherine Hill (1997-98) for fourth all-time. 

The Redbirds found the only goal of the game at the 79-minute mark by Kate Del Fava for her ninth of the season, which ranks second in the NCAA. 

Natalie Nagle nearly tied the matinee in the 81st minute, but her shot was wide right. Zoe Clarke also fired two shots, and Jenna Lundgren had one. 

Scouting the Bulldogs | Drake makes their way to WIU owning a 2-5-1 record with wins over South Dakota State and North Dakota State. The Bulldogs were picked to finish second in the MVC Preseason Poll. A 2018 All-MVC First Team selection, Rohan headlines the team along with Vaness Kavan and Kelsie Stone who were All-MVC Second Team choices.  

Scouting the Panthers | Before a battle with the Leathernecks, UNI faces South Dakota State on Friday (Sept. 20). The match will mark the third straight Summit League opponent for the Panthers. Northern Iowa owns a 4-3-0 record with victories against Chicago State, Saint Ambrose, and South Dakota. They return four starters highlighted by Sydney Hayden, an all-conference honoree from 2018. 

Between the Pipes | Goalkeeper Ines Palmiero Herrera has continued to climb the ranks in the record book. On Sept. 5 she became fifth all-time in career saves with 192 against UIC and chases Katherine Hill (219) for fourth all-time. The senior experienced another honor when she recorded save number 200, becoming only the fifth Leatherneck to do. Last season she led the Summit League with 93 saves en route to setting the individual season record for eighth all-time and tenth for minutes in goal (1487:55). Palmiero Herrera sits fifth all-time in saves (213), sixth in shutouts (4), tied for seventh in wins (7) and fourth for minutes in goal (3539:48).  

All Eyes on Yakima | Heading into her junior season, Lauryn Peters was named a Summit League Player to Watch. She has notched back-to-back seasons with at least one goal and two assists. Last season, Peters started all 18 matches and finished tied for first on the team with 14 shots on goal. The Yakima, Wash., native has logged over 2,400 minutes in just two seasons and has appeared in all 34 games with 30 starts. Peters recorded a shot in nearly every match but six and ended the 2018 season tied for second in assists (2) and shots (28). She also takes the pitch alongside her high school teammate and current captain Natalie Nagle.
