DAYTON,OHIO - Western Illinois volleyball finalized their performance at the Wright State Invitational this weekend with two games on Saturday (Sep. 14) against Wright State (24-14, 25-16, 25-21) and Indiana State (25-21, 25-14, 25-17).

Game 9

Freshman setter Jessie Connell put on a serving performance of her own as she finished the match with three service aces. This places Connell at second in the Summit League for total aces with 17 thus far this season.

Leathernecks took a 3-0 lead in the start of the first assisted by a Connell ace. The Raiders answered back and eventually took the lead with a few service aces of their own and a run to take the first.

The last two sets WIU was able to hang in with the Raiders but Wright State was able to go on a run in the middle of the set to take the set and eventually the match.

With the Sycamore momentum Indiana State took an early lead. Aubrey Putman and Mariah. Mitchell chipped away at this lead in the middle of the game, but the Leathernecks ultimately fell in the second.

Down two going into the third, WIU with three kills from Putman hung with the Sycamores until 11-7 when the Sycamores took off on another. Scoring run that the Leathernecks could not combat.

Putman was named to the Wright State Invitational All-Tournament Team after a weekend where she had 20 kills and 25 digs highlighted by a high of nine kills versus Toledo and 13 digs versus Wright State.
