Milwaukee Responds in the Second Half

After shutout in the first half, the Panthers netted three unanswered goals

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - After shutting out the four-time Horizon League champions through the first 45 minutes, the Milwaukee Panthers (6-1-0) used a three-goal second half to top the Western Illinois (2-3-1) women's soccer team on Thursday (Sept. 12) night.

Right into the second half, Milwaukee struck first by a goal from Julia Barajas ('46). The Panthers increased their lead to 2-0 five minutes later following a save by Palmeiro Herrea in the 51st minute. Their final goal of the night came midway through the second half at the 72-minute mark.

Ines Palmiero Herrera continued to chase fourth all-time in saves as she shut down both Milwaukee shots to begin the night in the first half. The senior now sits at a 206 career saves after tonight.

Jenna Lundgren fired the first shot for WIU which was on target, but the Panthers swallowed it up to keep things scoreless in the first half. Maddie Wilsey and Emily Bollman each put one on the net later under the lights, however, both shots were saved.

Freshmen Madison McKay and Megan O'Neill each made their collegiate debut as they checked in during the second half.

The Leathernecks open a five-game homestand starting with Drake on Friday (Sept. 20) and Northern Iowa Sunday (Sept. 22).
