Women's Golf Set for Benbow Invitational

The Leathernecks travel to Jacksonville, Fla., in an event hosted by Butler.

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's golf team heads to the Benbow Invitational Monday (March 11) for their third event of the spring. The two-day event is hosted at Blue Sky Golf Course in Jacksonville, Fla (Par 72, 6,102).

QUOTABLE:
"We are looking forward to continuing to drop our scoring average in Florida," head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "Our focus will be on wedge adjustments and mental game as we enjoy being outside finally."
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Western Illinois women's golf team combined to shoot a season-low 316 in the final round of the Alabama State Spring Golf Kickoff at Lagoon Park Golf Course on Tuesday (Feb. 26) The Leathernecks finished in third place with a three-round team score of 968.

Mariah Peters and Katie McTaggart finished fourth and fifth respectively. After shooting a 76 twice the day before, Peters fired an 82 for a total of 234 (+18). McTaggart collected another 78 to end up with a 236 (+20).
 
Nicole Hamilton-Cross rounded out the top 10 after handing in a 78 during the final round for a three-round score of 244 (+28). Cassidy Jurkaites rebounded on day two with a 76 that added up to a 245 (+29) followed by a 250 from Emily Marrs (+34).
 
Steadily improving her score each round, Katy Schmitt turned in an 84 in the third round for a combined score of 265 (+49). In addition to Peters, Abbie Gault also competed individually with a 273 (+57).
 
Evansville won the event with a combined team score of 943.

The Leathernecks return to play on Thursday (March 14) at the Savannah State Spring Invitational.
