Leathernecks Off to Omaha for First Summit League Road Series

Western and Omaha will meet inside Seymour Smith Park Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Western Illinois (8-14, 2-4 Summit) at Omaha (14-6-1, 6-0 Summit)
Date: March 29-31
Site: Omaha, Neb. (Seymour Smith Park)
Game Times:  1 p.m. (Friday), 2 p.m. (Saturday), 12 p.m. (Sunday)

Western's Last Outing: Victorious in three of its last five ballgames, Western Illinois added its latest win in a 13-3 decision over St. Ambrose.

The Leathernecks tabbed a run in five of the seven innings, and the outing marked back-to-back non-Summit League games where they finished with 10-plus.

•    The Leathernecks outhit St. Ambrose, 14-5, and all but two position players (12 appeared in the game) recorded a hit
•    Steve McShane went 3-for-4 with a run and RBI
•    Jordan Cheek received his first career start and earned the win in three innings of play;  Kyle Rosenfeld, Jack Carberry, and Parker Heidorf each saw time on the mound
•    Macomb native Grant Hannant recorded the run-rule walk-off with an RBI single in the seventh

B-Mont: Bailey Montgomery joined Western a season ago after transferring in from Wabash Valley. The senior is currently hitting .348 (the lone Leatherneck over .300 at the moment), and ties for third on the team in hits, while ranking second in RBI (15).

He recorded a career-high five RBI versus North Dakota State (March 23) and has three multiple RBI games this year.

The Centerfielder: Drue Galassi is off to a hot start in his junior campaign. He paces the Leathernecks in hits (18), slugging percentage (.522), and RBI (19), and ties for second in the Summit in the latter area.

A season ago, he recorded a pair of home runs and has already surpassed the total with four this year. Two were registered in one game alone (South Dakota State, March 17).
