Leathernecks Show Potential on Final Day

Western Illinois wrapped up the fall portion of the schedule at House of Champions

INDIANAPOLIS- The House of Champions meet came to a close for both Western Illinois swimming and diving teams on Sunday (Nov. 24).
 
"I thought we did an exceptional job," head coach Scott Johannsen said. "We are right where I was hoping to be heading into this point in the season. This team has a lot of potential and I look forward to seeing them reach it."
 
After one final round of preliminaries competition, Lincoln Greseth went for the distance in the 1650-free (17:15.11). Senior Brennan Bladel turned in a final time of 1:56.58 in the 200-back. Connor Owens concluded his events with a 2:11.94 in the 200-breast. In another 200-yard event, Garret Kemp swam the 200-fly in 1:57.33.
 
The Leatherneck men's 400-free relay squadron of Brennan Bladel, Isaiah Pihlstrom, Garret Kemp and Adam Peterson completed in 3:21.55.
 
On the women's side, Anika Gram collected a 200-fly time of 2:23.25 followed by Skyler Robinson's 200-breast time of 2:39.51. Fellow freshman, Olivia Leslie competed in the 200-back (2:15.66). The 400-free relay of Miranda Mathus, Shannon O'Malley, Casey Roberts and Allison Spielman (3:21.55) rounded out the women's events.
 
The Western Illinois swimming and diving programs return to action at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 11) at Valparaiso.
