MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's basketball team had three sign National Letters of Intent this past week with Mallory McDermott (Nov. 13), Anna Deets (Nov. 14), and Maddie Mock (Nov. 15).
McDermott, a Fairfax, Iowa native, joins the Leathernecks from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School. The 5'9 senior has seen IGCA all-state, all-district, and first-team all MVC honors.Â
"Mallory is such a versatile, all-around player," said head coach JD Gravina. "She has an incredible skill set for how athletic she is, and will be able to do a little bit of everything in our system."
Standing at an even 6' the Johnston, Iowa native has earned second-team all-state the past three years and rebounds at .500 percentage. Mock will join Western's roster after graduation from Johnston High School.
"Maddie will bring some physicality to our recruiting class, but she still can step out and shoot the basketball, pass, and even handle the ball. It is hard to find a player of her size that is as well rounded. She can really rebound, but can also play at the pace that we like to play at."
Out of Mason City, Iowa, Deets, comes off a second-team all-state honor and three years of second-team all-conference honors. The soon to be Mason City High School graduate is listed at 5'9.
"Anna is one of the best true shooters I have ever seen as a coach. She does a great job of finding opportunities to get her shot off. She can still make defenders pay for overplaying her by attacking off the bounce and scoring or creating for her teammates."
The three Iowa natives will look to make an impact in the Western Illinois lineup in the upcoming 2020-21 season.
As the 2019-20 season is just getting underway, the Leathernecks will return to home court Wednesday (Nov. 20) as they take on the Bradley Braves at 5:30 p.m.
