MACOMB, Ill. - A corner midway through the first half made the difference for the Western Illinois women's soccer team (6-7-1, 2-2-0) as they dropped a 1-0 contest to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks (9-4-1, 3-1-0) on Sunday (Oct. 13) afternoon.Ā
"Tough loss, especially since we were really good on the day," Director of Soccer Dr. Eric Johnson said. "The goal against us was one that doesn't happen often and just unlucky for us. We need to be better with our final pass in the remainder of the schedule."Ā
Western pieced together numerous chances with their final look in the 88th minute. Amy Andrews fired her third shot of the match, but a North Dakota defender stepped up and blocked it.Ā
The Fighting Hawks scored the game winning goal in the 25th minute on a corner. Megan Wright lofted a ball that curved into the top left corner of the net for her second of the season.
Andrews and Jenna Lundgren each fired three shots to help outshoot North Dakota 15-10 along with holding the possession advantage.Ā
The Purple and Gold hit the road for a trip to the Dakotas, to take on South Dakota State Friday (Oct. 18) and North Dakota State Sunday (Oct. 20).Ā
