YORKTOWN, Ind. — The Western Illinois women's golf team finished day one of the Cardinal Classic hosted by Ball State on Monday, Sept. 17. The Leathernecks turned in a combined score of 658 through the first two rounds.

"The team had a much better second round today," head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "Katie McTaggart had a career low and so did Emily Marrs. Both played more consistently. We are making progress on hitting greens on lowering our putting stats. We will look forward to playing relaxed and focused tomorrow."

McTaggart shot a team-low and career-low round of 77 in the second round after an 83 in the first round for a combined 160 (+16). Marrs notched a career-low 80 that was also in the second round after her first round score of 85 for a 165 (+21).

The next three Leathernecks were close behind with Cassidy Jurkaites collecting a final score of 167 (+23). Mariah Peters and Katy Schmitt both finished with a 169 (+25) to round off the starting lineup.
