MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois women's soccer hits the road for a pair of road matches starting at Chicago State on Friday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. and wrapping up with a 1 p.m. contest at Drake on Sunday, Sept. 16.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Western Illinois women's soccer team played Ball State to a 1-1 draw after two overtimes. The match was moved from Macomb to the TBK Bank Sports Complex in Bettendorf, Iowa and was played indoors.

Western Illinois got on the board first in the 16th minute as Amy Andrews dribbled the ball into the box and passed to Emily Bollman who struck the ball in the left corner of the net. Andrews fired an up-close shot of her own in the 21st minute but the Ball State goalkeeper was there for the save. Ines Palmiero Herrera picked up a pair of saves in the first half for a 1-0 Leatherneck lead at halftime.

The score evened 1-1 only two minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal inside the box from the right side past a diving Palmiero Herrera into the back left corner. Late in the game, during the 85th minute, Andrews had another shot saved late and Alessandra Fistrovich missed high on the Cardinals last shot of regulation in the 88th minute.

Tied 1-1, the match entered overtime and Palmiero Herrera snatched a shot from Kerrigan Johnson from the left side. The first 10-minute overtime period was not enough and Ball State increased its pressure in the second overtime. The draw was sealed after a shot by Sammi Corcoran was hit directly at Palmiero Herrera for the last second save in the 110th minute.

The Leathernecks travel north to Chicago State for a 1 p.m. match on Friday, Sept. 14.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
Chicago State is searching for its first win of the season with a 0-5-1 overall record. The Cougars are trying to move past an 8-0 defeat to UMass on Friday, Sept. 7.

Cristiano Costa enters his first season as the head coach of the Cougars after serving as an assistant coach last year. Freshman forward Marissa Beale paces the squad with two goals as the Cougars have been outscored 24-4 and outshot 153-27 through six games. Last season, the Leathernecks set a single-game goals record in a 9-0 victory over Chicago State.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
Drake is currently 2-5-0 overall after falling to Marquette 2-1 on Sunday (Sept.9). Before playing to host to the Leathernecks, the Bulldogs host fellow Summit League foe South Dakota on Thursday, Sept. 13.

Lindsey Horner has been with the Drake women's soccer program since near its inception in 2002. She was an assistant coach until 2009 when she was promoted to the head coach and during 10 seasons, Horner has amassed an 89-84-28 overall mark. Sophomore forward Olivia Bruce leads Drake with two goals and the sophomore goalkeeper Kelsie Stone has 37 saves in seven matches. Last year, the Bulldogs outlasted Western Illinois 2-1 in the second overtime.

PRIMEAU'S PREGAME QUOTE: "We hit the road this weekend for two contests looking to improve on the strides we made as a team this past weekend," assistant coach Josee Primeau said. "The team is displaying good moments but we still haven't put together a full game from start to finish, which is what we'll need to do this weekend to get back into the win column. Chicago State has improved drastically from last season with a completely new coaching staff so it won't be an easy match by any means. We face a quality Drake side after a quick turnaround so it's important that the girls are up for the challenge. Summit League play is just around the corner and this weekend will be a good indication of how far we've come and what still needs to be cleaned up heading into Summit League play."

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Leathernecks stay on the road to face Illinois State on Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
