Leathernecks Post Eight Event Wins at Huskie Classic

The Leathernecks claimed success just in time as The Summit League Outdoor Championships are just around the corner.

DEKALB, Ill. - Western Illinois track and field swept action in eight events at Northern Illinois' Huskie Classic Friday with victories in the high jump, triple jump, 200-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 110-meter hurdles, 1,500-meter run and the men's 4x100 relay.

The Leathernecks claimed success just in time as The Summit League Outdoor Championships are just around the corner. The three-day meet begins Thursday, May 10, and Western enters competition on the backs of stellar performances in each of its last two meets.

Both of Western's 4x100 relay teams set season's best at the Huskie Classic, and the men claimed their race in 42.56. Josh Kirby, Tevin Taylor, Justin Montalto and Darius Patterson comprised the team, and three of them went on to claim individual success as well.

Kirby won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.24, Darius Patterson did the same in the 100-meter dash with a collegiate best of 10.98, and Montalto swept the field in the 200-meter dash in 22.47.

Raytoria Richardson also performed well in the 200 with a personal record and No. 1 finish of 24.84.

Western concluded the day with Corey Moody (4:00.30 / 1,500), Jasmine Brown (12.24 meters / triple jump), and Jace Norman (1.83 meters / high jump) all sitting atop the leaderboards in their respective events.
