Western Illinois Reaches Halfway Point at Dayton Flyer Invitational

The Leathernecks have one round remaining in the 2018 fall season.

KETTERING, Ohio— The Western Illinois women's golf team finished day one of the Dayton Flyer Invitational at the NCR Country Club North Course on Monday, Oct. 15. The Leathernecks turned in a combined score of 337 in the opening round and are in 10th place as a team.
 
"We got off to a rocky start today, but had some solid play for 9-12 holes," head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "We will work on minimizing big number holes and making smarter club selections."
 
Mariah Peters shot an 83 (+13) in the first round followed closely by an 84 (+14) from Katie McTaggart. Cassidy Jurkaites and Abbie Gault each finished with an opening round score of 85 (+15).
 
Freshman Adriana Garcia Martin made her collegiate debut and rounded out the Western Illinois lineup by firing a score of 99 (+29). Nicole Hamilton-Cross shot a team-low 81 as an individual and is tied for 40th overall.
 
Youngstown State is in the lead with a combined team score of 292, only two strokes ahead of Oakland in second place.

The Leathernecks wrap up the fall campaign and the Dayton Flyer Invitational with one more 18-hole round on Tuesday, Oct. 16 beginning at 11 a.m. (ET).
