STATS Highlights Brett Taylor as a ‘Top 10’ FCS Player

Western Illinois senior linebacker listed on STATS preseason list

MACOMB, Ill. – The preseason accolades continue for Western Illinois' Brett Taylor (Macomb/Macomb HS). STATS announced Taylor as part of its 'Top 10' FCS football players list on Thursday (June 22).

Taylor, who was named preseason All-American last week by Athlon, came in at number 10 on the list. The senior linebacker is one of four Missouri Valley Football Conference representatives.

The 'Top 10' list consisted of six offensive players and four on defense, including Taylor.

As a junior, he led the Leathernecks with 134 total tackles (94 solos). His 8.5 solo tackles per game average led the nation and his 12.2 tackles per game ranked third in the country.

Following the 2016 season, Taylor earned several All-America honors. He finished seventh in the Buck Buchanan Award voting (National Defensive Player of the Year), First Team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and First Team Academic All-MVFC.

He enters his senior year with 307 career tackles, 11th all-time in Western Illinois history, and 198 solo stops (6th all-time).
