Brown Caps Off 2017 Outdoor Season At NCAA West Prelims

The junior competed in the triple jump Saturday in Austin, Texas.

AUSTIN, Texas — Western Illinois junior Jasmine Brown concluded her 2017 season at the NCAA West Preliminary Round Saturday (May 27) in Austin, Texas with a distance of 41'8.75" in the women's triple jump.

"Jasmine had a tough year that was plagued with a lot of injury," said head coach Mike Stevenson. "This meet was only her fifth time in the triple jump all year. It requires a particular rhythm, and she had a tough time finding it today. All things considered, it was a solid effort and she is really encouraged for next year. If she stays healthy for the year she can really go far."

The junior finished 25th overall in the field of competition, and despite her injuries, she finished her 2017 season with multiple noteworthy achievements. Brown currently holds the program's record in the triple jump with a distance of 43'3.75"— a record she set in 2015 at the NCAA West Prelims. For 2017, Brown's season-record of 42'4" in the women's triple jump at the Lee Calhoun Memorial Invitational (April 15) ranked her first in The Summit League for the event.

She also recently broke her own 2-year-old long jump program record at The Summit League Outdoor Championships with a distance of 19'11.75", which earned her a runner-up finish at the event (May 11).

On top of that, she was also named an All-League honoree for the Leathernecks and earned her second-career NCAA West Prelims berth.
