Western Illinois Records Multiple Top-10 Results At Drake Relays

Alyssa Johnson and Jasmine Brown both had top-5 efforts.

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Western Illinois track and field team saw multiple top-10 performances on the women's side at the 2017 Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa (April 26-29).

"We got about what most teams expect at the Drake Relays. We had some great performances and it's always good to compete on such a big stage," said head coach Mike Stevenson. "We had some awful weather, but it helps prepare our athletes for conference and the NCAA competition in the coming weeks. Hopefully we can use the weekend as a platform for better things in the very near future."

Jasmine Brown posted another top-5 performance in the long jump, finishing fifth with a distance of 5.79 meters (19'00"). She also posted a top-10 effort in the triple jump—where she ranks first in The Summit League—with a seventh-place finish of 12.12 meters (39'09.25").

Alyssa Johnson came away with a huge performance in the women's 800-meter run, finishing in third place and a new personal record of 2:08.43, which moved her to second overall in The Summit League rankings for the event.

In the women's heptathlon, Michaela Busch finished sixth with 4,169 total points through the seven events.

In the women's 100-meter dash, Kaliyah Cobb posted a time of 12.49 seconds, just .52 off her personal best, where she ranks fourth in The Summit League.

The quartet of Sierra Woods, Ashley Graham, Kaliyah Cobb and Alyssa Johnson rounded out the top-10 performances for the Leathernecks in the women's sprint medley, posting a time of 4:00.97. For the women's 4x400 meter run, Kaliyah Cobb, Jaclyn Finney, Khalyia Lawson and Michaela Busch finished with a time of 4:06.08

The Leathernecks will now transition into The Summit League Championships, which will be held in Fargo, N.D. from May 11-13.
