Track and Field Wraps Up Big Blue Classic With Top-10 Finishes

CHARLESTON, Ill. – The men and women's track and field teams wrapped up the final day of the Big Blue Classic with 11 top-10 finishes for the meet highlighted by Alyssa Johnson's first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.96.

Johnson also finished second in the women's four-by-400 meter run with teammates Bo Brasseur, Kaliyah Cobb and Sierra Woods with a time of 3:65.26.

In the women's four-by-100 meter run, the team of Kaliyah Cobb, Bo Brasseur, Khalyia Lawson and Sierra Woods finished fifth with a time of 48.92.

Allison Richter posted a second-place performance in the women's javelin, tossing a total of 125.10 (38.36 meters), while Jasmine Swanagan rounded out the top-10 performances in throwing events for the Leathernecks with a distance of 40-feet-four inches (12.29 meters) in the women's shot put for 10th. Ashley Graham also finished eighth in the long jump with a distance of 18-feet-6 inches (5.64 meters).

On the men's side, Josh Kirby scored a fifth-place finish in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56.06. Both Tevin Taylor and Bradley Walls finished ninth in their respective field events. Taylor posted a distance of 44 feet and nine inches (13.64 meters) in the triple jump, while Walls threw a total of 165.02 (50.34 meters) in the hammer throw.

Overall, the men's team finished eighth while the women posted a fifth-place finish.

Western Illinois will head to Normal, Ill. Saturday (April 8) for the Gibson Invitational at Illinois State University. The meet is set to begin at 9 a.m.
