McGuire Honored With MVFC Offensive Player of the Week Award

Quarterback helped engineer late comeback at Northern Iowa

MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois quarterback Sean McGuire has earned Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Sunday (Oct. 8). The weekly conference award is the fifth of McGuire's career.

McGuire completed 19-of-34 passes (55.9 percent) for 300 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Western Illinois' 38-29 win at Northern Iowa. After a UNI score put the Panthers ahead 29-25 with 1:12 left, the Franklin, Wisc., native engineered a 9-play, 65 yard drive, finding Jaelon Acklin for a go-ahead 20-yard touchdown with six seconds left.

In the fourth quarter alone on Saturday, McGuire was 7-for-12 for 126 yards and two touchdowns. In his 20 career starts, the junior now has 10 300-yard passing games.

Heading into next Saturday's (Oct. 14) contest against Missouri State, McGuire is 84-for-121 (69.4 percent) for 153 yards, 12 touchdowns and one interception over the last 14 quarters of play.

The Leathernecks seek their second consecutive 5-1 start to a campaign by hosting the Bears at 3 p.m. Saturday from Hanson Field.
