Sean McGuire Named National Offensive Player of the Week

College Sports Madness selects sophomore quarterback for national award

MACOMB, Ill. – Sophomore quarterback Sean McGuire (Franklin, Wis./Franklin) threw for 315 yards and accounted for two touchdowns in Western Illinois' 28-23 win at Northern Illinois. For his efforts, he was chosen as the National 'Offensive Player of the Week' by College Sports Madness on Sunday (Sept. 25).
 
McGuire was also named Honorable Mention National Performer of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
 
He finished 21-of-37 passing for 315 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 11 yards and a score. The offense did not commit a turnover for the third straight game, as the Leathernecks captured their first FBS victory since September 2003.
 
On the year, McGuire has completed 58 percent of his passes, going for 760 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.
 
The 12th-ranked Leathernecks open Missouri Valley Football Conference play Saturday (Oct. 1) on the road, traveling to South Dakota State. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game can be seen live on ESPN3.
